Born of Mary

And behold, he [Jesus] shall be born of Mary

Alma 7:10

Jesus the Great Creator was born to Mary over 2,000 years ago. The greatest of all, humbled himself and descended to earth. He came as a baby in need of every care from his mother. The king of kings and the creator of life was born as a helpless infant in need to be cared for like all of us. He knows what it is to call out for his mother. He knows what it is to hunger and thirst. He knows what it is to feel powerless and to depend on the power and grace of another. Because of this he knows our fears and pains. He has compassion on us. It is a great mystery that the Creator of Heaven and Earth descended to earth to be born of Mary.

As Mary birthed and loved Jesus, so does Jesus birth and love us into new life. In this sense, Jesus is like our Mary. We are helpless and must depend on the loving grace and power of Jesus to nourish our spirits with divine love. We cry out to him in our time of need.

  1. I have never thought about this connection before of us being helpless babies just as Christ was, but I love it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
