All Things Have Become New

And behold it is written also, that thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy; But behold I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good. Therefore those things which were of old time, which were under the law, in me are all fulfilled. Old things are done away, and all things have become new. Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect.

3 Nephi 12:43-48

Jesus is a new beginning. Through him, all things have become new. He asks us to see with new eyes the divine potential that exists within everyone. Jesus died and suffered for everyone because he loves them. His mission is to love and unify all of humanity. The perfection that he points us towards, is a perfect love. It is not a robotic perfection in rule following that never makes mistakes, but a perfection and newness of heart that beats, feels pain and joy, and returns love for hate. Jesus provides us a newness of heart that seeks to understand others. Jesus offers us a newness of heart that is continually growing, shedding old layers, and expanding in connection with the pain, suffering, and joys of others. He showed us how to experience a more abundant life and how to mourn with those that mourn and rejoice in the righteous progression of others. Their loss, pain, growth, and joy is also ours as we become at-one with Jesus. Instead of competition or a zero sum game with others, there is curiosity and abundance. Through Jesus, all things have become new and remain everlastingly new and full of divine awe.
