Bar of God

And I exhort you to remember these things; for the time speedily cometh that ye shall know that I lie not, for ye shall see me at the Bar of God; and the Lord God will say unto you: Did I not declare my words unto you, which were written by this man, like as one crying from the dead, yea, even as one speaking out of the dust?….. And now I bid unto all, farewell. I soon go to rest in the paradise of God, until my spirit and body shall again reunite, and I am brought forth triumphant through the air, to meet you before the Pleasing Bar of the Great Jehovah, the Eternal Judge of both quick and dead. Amen.

Moroni 10:27, 34

Jesus is our Eternal Judge. He is the symbolic Bar of God. There is no hiding from his All Searching Eye (2 Nephi 9:44). All of our character flaws, secrets, pride, and sins will be visible. If we have not already deconstructed and acknowledged our weaknesses, that deconstruction will occur in Jesus’ presence as we see ourselves perfectly. In order to repent, have a change of heart, and be rebuilt into a divine creature, we must acknowledge our sins, errors, and flaws. For those who have deceived themselves, rationalized the wounds that they have caused to their spirit, and have not resolved their shame, this fearful and dreadful deconstruction will happen all at once at the divine bar. For the Saints, this welcomed deconstruction and correction will be a divine extension of their ongoing daily repentance and renewal. It will be a divine realignment and reconciliation so that we may be one with God and reside in God’s presence. All will acknowledge the mercy and grace of Christ as we are remade by Him for our new life in his Kingdom of many glories.

Unlike earthly justice systems, Jesus is both our advocate (or supporter) as well as our Judge. The Great Creator who made the earth, will remake us. As Paul states, “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness [alluding to the creation], hath shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2 Corinthians 4:6

Jesus will remake us so that we are perfected in him if we give over our hearts. In-between Moroni’s two statements about the bar of God, he calls us to come to Christ now in this life, seek after spiritual gifts, avoid evil, awake spiritually, and expand the love of God to others. Then he states…

Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God. And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become Holy, without spot.

Moroni 10:32-33
